OBSOLESCENCE

It is hard
when life does not go
as innocence planned
but plans make us fools
and tie up free hands
all these foundations
to keep us in place
pencil book sketches
that time can erase
Obsolescence
of family and friends
replacing innocence
a means to an end
it is painful
to lose
what is real
but plans have a way
of missing
what they steal
the best laid plans
like bottles and cans
redeemed by dealers
with invisible hands

EVERYDAY

Everyday
your face finds a way
to join my thoughts
when they go out to play
I am happy to see you
and it is more than okay
your smile lights a fire
when the coals go away
I picture you happy
I picture you safe
I remember your eyes
I remember your grace
sad not to hug you
and laugh and talk
sad not to hold you
and talk and walk
Glad you are happy
and growing inside
glad to have loved you
with eyes open wide
